Artisanal Chewing Gum – Bompas & Parr
My current repertoire of chewing gum flavours generally stretches to the three types of mint – spear, pepper and extra strong – occasionally I take a walk on the wild side with a stick of Juicy Fruit.
Bompas & Parr clearly hold no such reservations and are gearing up to launch a chewing gum event involving no fewer than 200 different flavours (so that’s 196 more than my handbag has ever known) including iris, Hendrick’s Gin and tonic, damp soil, beer yeast, and curry. The flavours are intended to be tried solo or combined to produce one of thousands of possible experiences.
The first thing that popped into my mind when I read about it was the chapter in Charlie and the Chocolate where Violet Beauregarde turns into a giant blueberry after trying the experimental whole-meal-in-a-stick-of-gum invention. Given that the venue, Whiteleys Shopping Centre, doesn’t have a Juicing Room I’m hoping that Bompas & Parr have better luck than Willy Wonka!
