It’s Nice That have built a Word-A-Coaster and put it in Selfridges window!

Selfridges launched their Word Words Words event today, aimed squarely at championing words, books and libraries through various fun and educational events (handwriting analysis, love letter lectures and storytelling are just some of the things on offer) and so they needed an equally cool window display.

Step forward the It’s Nice That team…

It was at this point that I added “Word-A-Coaster” to my vocabulary. The window display is a collaboration between It’s Nice That and interactive designer Stewdio and takes the form of a fortune telling machine. It’s part 14-foot tall wooden rollercoaster (hand built by model makers Atom), half 30,000 strong ball pit.

The balls, which can be picked up free of charge by shoppers, contain little cards showing a uniquely numbered adjective generated electronically. It’s like a fortune cookie but with the added coolness of being part of a rollercoaster.
