Ai Weiwei’s sunflower seeds – Tate Modern
I think the easiest way to describe the latest turbine hall installation is an urban, industrial beach. It’s how you imagine LS Lowry would have drawn a trip to the seaside. Children are digging and running around barefoot while adults are letting the seeds slip through their fingers or hurting their feet. You can see a few weighing up whether they can get away with slipping the odd one or two into their pockets while a gallery attendant patiently rakes up stray pieces. Everywhere is a layer of dust.
Great photos – I especially love the ones of patterns made at the edges of the sunflower ‘carpet’. It’s such a shame it is now closed to the public for walking on – but as you say, the dust was everywhere.
